Bringing hope to Arua

Dear friends,

I would like to introduce you to a fundraising-effort.

I will explain further, but for those who might not want to read the whole text: the final goal is to ship 500 Bibles to Uganda.

My friends Greg and Kilby Helms work as missionaries in the Arua District in Uganda, where they share the gospel and disciple those that respond to it positively. Greg and I chat very often, and he’s shared bits about life in Africa. As you probably know, Uganda has a really high poverty rate. And I don’t mean “I can’t buy the phone I want” poor, I mean “I won’t eat today because I can’t afford it” poor. Thanks be to God, most of us don’t know what that’s like. I thank Him again.

One really great thing is that English is the National language in Uganda, so it’s easy for Greg and Kilby to interact with people and get around. It’s allowed them to have deep and consistent conversations with dozens of people. Even if someone speaks a different language, they will likely prefer to read in English. And that’s where we come in.

Greg shared with me that it is quite hard to find affordable Bibles in his area, meaning Bibles that won’t cost the equivalent of 5-10 days of work in Uganda. For most of them, Bibles are out of reach. My first thought was to send him a box of Bibles, but then I figured out it’s quite expensive to send post to Uganda.

Fast forward a little bit, I was talking to my other friend, Jonathan. He works with MAF (Mission Aviation Fellowship) in DR Congo providing various resources like literature and medicine to areas that are difficult to reach by other means of transport. I asked him some questions and it turns out he has a colleague that flies to Arua regularly. Also, getting Bibles in English is not so difficult for them.

After some more conversations with him and some of his contacts, we came to a deal. They will fly the Bibles to Arua for free, but they can’t cover the cost of the Bibles, 10 US Dollars a piece.

I want to start by trying to get 500 Bibles to Arua, which comes to $5000, but we’ll see where it goes. That’s why I’m writing this today.

Are you willing to contribute to this project and help us fund it?

You can do so starting from $10, basically €9, but please don’t feel limited 😉 Just remember that every $10 will get a Bible to someone in Uganda, and any extras will end up adding up to another Bible for someone else.

***UPDATE*** At the moment, around €700 came in! ***UPDATE***
